ApconiX Welcomes Summer Placement Students
ApconiX is delighted to welcome three summer placement students, Josh Wright, Alex Stephenson and Jim Sidaway.
Josh Wright
Josh has just finished his first year at Nottingham Trent University where he is studying for a Business and Economics degree. Wanting to learn more about how a business works, Josh has joined the Business Development and Marketing team for a 7 week placement and is working with Henry Bushell, Laurence Bishop and Cynara Livera on a variety of projects.
“Coming to work and seeing how a business operates is really useful. There has been a broad range of projects form search engine optimisation, to using ChatGPT, to researching company data and updating the customer relationship management database. I’ve registered for an industry placement year after my second year at university. This is great experience and will hopefully help with my applications next year,” commented Josh.
A keen sportsman, Josh plays rugby, tennis and football and has recently taken up golf (weather permitting).
Alex Stephenson
Alex has just finished his first year at the University of Newcastle where he is studying for a degree in Biochemistry. Keen to learn new things and explore the many possible avenues biochemistry might take him, Alex sent his CV to a variety of companies including ApconiX. Joining the Target Safety Assessment team led by James Sidaway, Alex is working on the ongoing project to catalogue the growing number of reports ApconiX is producing.
Alex added, “The work is really enjoyable and it’s good to learn more about what else ApconiX does. The business has several elements to it which gives me a broader insight into pharmaceutical/biotech industry. I’m hoping to do an industry placement year too so it’s good to get some experience of what might be out there.”
Alex enjoys reading and playing video games and has taken the opportunity to explore Cheshire while he’s staying here.
Jim Sidaway
Jim has just finished his second year at University of Loughborough where he is studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science. Jim is considering his next career steps after university.
“My degree is very varied and includes modules from anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, exercise and sport psychology, biomechanics and kinesiology. My options career-wise are very wide too. I have shadowed a medic because I was wondering about studying medicine but decided that wasn’t for me. Working for ApconiX gives me some more experience of other industries and I am considering continuing my academic studies with a MSc.”
Jim is working with the Target Safety Assessment team alongside Alex and is enjoying the work. “Learning about potential drugs, their targets and safety is fascinating,” he added.
Another keen sportsman, Jim plays and coaches cricket and enjoys playing football and going to the gym.
