ApconiX Welcomes William O’Brien
ApconiX is delighted to welcome William O’Brien as their new Finance Director. William has a strong background in high-tech development management and corporate finance.
William is the founder of WOCO, a specialist R&D tax and financial advisory business based at Alderley Park, Cheshire. A seasoned leader, he previously worked across a wide range of industries including Biotech, Medical Devices, Formula One, Defence and Finance. William has a degree in Neurophysiology from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from Manchester Business School.
Although William will be working with ApconiX as Finance Director, and these days is more likely to be found discussing cashflow than ion channels, that was not always the case. Early in his career William worked as a scientist at the Babraham Institute near Cambridge, using patch clamp and fluorescence imaging to study the role of GTP binding proteins in exocytosis. He designed a new type of imaging system and, with colleagues followed it into business as it was spun out into a new venture leading to its use in over 100 laboratories worldwide.
William’s unusual (if not unique) background makes him an ideal fit for the science-first ethos at the heart of ApconiX.
William said, “I’ve worked with the fantastic team at ApconiX on their R&D tax credits over the past couple of years, and I’m delighted to be taking on this new role as the company continues to expand!”
Dr Richard Knight, Director and Co-founder of ApconiX added, “As we continue to grow, we know that William’s expertise and experience will be invaluable in helping us become more effective and efficient in the services that we provide biotech and pharma companies worldwide”.
